Looking for a fun way to do more physical activities, and be part of a greater cause?
Join the Wellness Race Against Cancer Virtual Run 2021!
In conjunction with National Cancer Society Malaysia, we would like to celebrate cancer survivors worldwide and recognize those who have supported them along the way.
Getting up and moving more is one of the best things you can do to support the fight against cancer, and for your own health.
Be active for 5.5 km (about 7000 steps), or if you are up for a Challenge, Be Active for 55 km (about 70,000 steps) and stand a chance to win a medal and exciting prizes!
The best part is that you can join in from anywhere, any time – even from home! Just log how much you’ve run in the month of June, and you’re all set!
The registration fee for the Virtual Run will be donated to the National Cancer Society Malaysia, as part of our effort to support cancer survivors in Malaysia.
Making small changes to your daily routine and creating new habits can help you to get more active, and stay active.
What counts as being active may surprise you – you don’t even have to leave your home!
BEING ACTIVE AT HOME
Ever since the pandemic began, lots of people have spent more time at home.
There are lots of ways you can stay active indoors, including:
Brisk walking
Family games (a great alternative to watching TV)
Household chores
Dancing to the radio
Yoga
Gardening
Cycling
Sports at home – badminton, ping pong
Online classes - from strength training to belly dancing, there are lots of free videos for you to try out online.
Each week, aim to complete at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity or 75 minutes of vigorous physical activity.
HOW DO I KNOW THE INTENSITY OF MY PHYSICAL ACTIVITY?
During moderate physical activity, your heart increase should increase, and you will breathe harder. You still can comfortably talk but not sing.
During vigorous physical activity, you should be breathing faster and only be able to say a few words at a time.
BE PHYSICALLY ACTIVE TO FIGHT AGAINST CANCER
There is strong evidence that higher levels of physical activity are linked to lower risk of 8 different types of cancer.
Being more active can also improve your overall health. It can help reduce stress and fatigue, increase energy levels, and boost your immune system.
Physical activity can also reduce your risks of other health problems, including heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and osteoporosis.
